The “Seeberufsfachschulen” (SBF) were an institution of the Kriegsmarine as successor facilities to the Kriegsmarine petty officer preparatory schools. Applicants for the 2nd year of a Kriegsmarine petty officer preparatory school who had passed an entrance examination could now opt for an apprenticeship at the Seeberufsfachschulen.
In 1942, the first 300 students of the 1927/28 class arrived at the Seeberufsfachschule Wolgast. In 1943, the 1928/29 birth years were recruited, and finally in 1944 the 1929/30 birth years.
By 1944, naval or technically oriented Seeberufsfachschulen existed in, for example, Marienberg, Wolgast, Wesermünde (Bremerhaven), Lindau, Hohenschwangau, Essen, Neuwied, Elsfleth, Sankt Wolfgang, Eudenbach, Görlitz, and Ungarisch Hradisch in Mähren.
