According to the official report: “With the intention of bringing together the largest possible number of sport pilots from all countries for the opening of the XI Olympic Games, the Aero-Club von Deutschland, at the suggestion of the Organizing Committee, organized an International Star Flight to Rangsdorf airfield near Berlin from July 29 to 30, 1936, which was open only to foreign participants. Aircraft of all categories, land and seaplanes, up to 2,500 kg flying weight were admitted to this competition. Each participant had to cover a minimum distance of 500 km.
By the entry deadline, the Aero-Club von Deutschland had received entries from 16 nations with a total of 54 aircraft. Austria was most strongly represented with 9 aircraft, one of them piloted by the President of the Austrian Aero-Club, Prince Kinsky. Of the foreign nations, France registered 7 aircraft, Belgium, Poland and Czechoslovakia 5 each, England, Holland and Hungary 4 each, Italy and Sweden 3 each, and Chile, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and Japan 1 aircraft each.”
