He extinguished the burning clothes by throwing himself selflessly over the rescued man. During this rescue operation he suffered life-threatening injuries from bomb fragments in addition to severe burns. ”

The Golden Book of Aviators was a German-language book which was continued through entries of particularly noteworthy persons, and was thus a non-wearable decoration of the Luftwaffe of the Wehrmacht in the Third Reich. By the end of the National Socialist regime, the Golden Book of Aviators comprised a total of 35 names.

- Daily log of jumps by the Lieutenant of the 7th Training Course 1944 in the 3rd School Company 1, 1st Group. The first solo jump took place on January 24, 1944 at 4:00 PM, from a Junkers 52. The card was signed by the chief instructor, First Lieutenant and Company Commander Hofmann.
- Assessment letter from Fallschirmschule IV, evaluations and notes on Lieutenant Lorenzo Serra. The document also bears the signature of First Lieutenant, Company Commander Hofmann.
