During the National Socialist period, the coat of arms of the city of Breslau was modified beginning in 1938. The coat of arms was divided. In the upper field was the Silesian eagle, in the lower field the Iron Cross 1813 as a reference to the institution of the Iron Cross in Breslau in the year 1813 by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III.
