Frech/Pichler/Steiner/Vlachos: Austria's Generals 1919–1955 – The Generals of the First Republic and the Federal State until the Second Republic 1955

Verlag Militaria. Hardcover with dust jacket, thread-sewn binding, Volume 1 with illustrated section (300 portrait photographs), total 2500 pages, language German. Format: 26.5 × 18.5 cm. Weight 4.5 kg.

Contents
This four-volume work with a total scope of more than 2,500 pages presents the biographies of 1,172 Austrian generals from the years between the founding of the First Republic and the State Treaty in 1955. Three volumes cover the family backgrounds, educational paths, service careers and assignments, as well as decorations acquired in peace and war of troop and general staff officers, military physicians, intendants, engineer officers and other officers of special services, as well as those of generals of police and gendarmerie. The accompanying commentary volume reveals the historical context and background of general appointments in the years between 1919 and 1955. Statistical analyses regarding religious denomination, ancestry, social origin and promotion opportunities in the respective careers complete the overall picture. For the first time, the fates of those generals who were subject to political or racial persecution in the years between 1938 and 1945 are revealed. The rehabilitation of politically disciplined officers at the beginning of the Second Republic is also addressed. The extensive documentation section brings to light archival material that has never before been published to this extent in any publication. This includes the membership list of the “Nationalsozialistischer Soldatenring (NSR)” as well as protocols of the Muff Commission and the secret records of Oberleutnant Dr. Josef Eckinger with politically incriminating material about officers of the Bundesheer. Around 300 mostly unpublished portrait photographs in Volume 1 (Documents and Photos) illustrate the biographies and represent a valuable aid for identifying generals.

The Sternecker Museum of the NSDAP - Museum Guide of the First Party Office of the NSDAP

in Munich, by Rudolf Schüßler.
(In the Sterneckerbräu tavern, members of the German Workers' Party (DAP), founded on January 5, 1919 by Anton Drexler, met weekly starting in 1919. In 1919, Adolf Hitler, on assignment from the Reichswehr Intelligence Command, attended a meeting in the Leiberzimmer, where Gottfried Feder, member of the Thule Society, gave a lecture and joined the party a few days later. The Leiberzimmer was simultaneously the meeting place for officers of the dissolved Royal Bavarian Infantry Leib Regiment, whose members were colloquially called “Leiber.” In October 1919, the DAP established its first office in an adjacent room, which moved to the Cornelius tavern at Corneliusstrasse 12 in autumn 1921 due to constantly rising membership numbers.
In 1921, the Bavarian Homeland and Royal League “In Treue fest” was founded at Sterneckerbräu. This was banned by the National Socialists on February 2, 1934 and refounded in 1952.
In November 1933, Hitler opened the NSDAP party museum at Sterneckerbräu.)

The Sternecker Museum of the NSDAP - Museum Guide of the First Party Office of the NSDAP,

in Munich, by Rudolf Schüßler.
(From 1919 onwards, members of the German Workers' Party (DAP), founded on January 5, 1919 by Anton Drexler, met once weekly at the Sterneckerbräu inn. In 1919, Adolf Hitler, on assignment from the Intelligence Command of the Reichswehr, attended a meeting in the Leiberzimmer, where Gottfried Feder, member of the Thule Society, gave a lecture and joined the party a few days later. The Leiberzimmer was also the meeting place for officers of the dissolved Royal Bavarian Infantry Leib Regiment, whose members were popularly known as “Leiber”. In October 1919, the DAP established its first office in an adjoining room, which relocated to the Cornelius inn at Corneliusstrasse 12 in autumn 1921 due to constantly increasing membership numbers.
In 1921, the Bavarian Homeland and Royal League “In Treue fest” was founded at the Sterneckerbräu. This was banned by the National Socialists on February 2, 1934 and re-established in 1952.
In November 1933, Hitler opened the Party Museum of the NSDAP at the Sterneckerbräu.)
