so-called “crush cap”, circa 1943. Elegant soft field cap, fabric in fine gabardine officer quality, complete with Bevo metal-thread woven cap eagle and oak leaf wreath, both hand-sewn, in the center the metal-thread hand-embroidered cross on field-gray for Army chaplains. Dark green cap band, the piping for Army chaplains in purple. The visor made of soft black patent leather. Interior dark brown sweatband, laterally with “blind” embossed manufacturer “Erel Patent”, yellow silk lining, with “blind” impressed manufacturer “Erel Sonderklasse”, size 58. The visor cap has been worn for many years, in quite good overall condition.
Additionally the following documents from the estate of Chaplain Heider:
Wehrmacht identity card of the Oberkommando des Heeres Sanitätsinspektion as medical private with authorization to wear the Geneva emblem, issued 2.3.1941. After training as a medical soldier he then transferred and became an Army chaplain.
Extract from the paybook for “Army Chaplain Johannes Heider with 2 wounds 1943 and 1944, issued by Kriegslazarett (mot.) 1/637, issued Bischofshofen 28.6.1945.
Discharge certificate from US prisoner of war status, 28 Jun. 1945, with designation “Pfarrer”.
Additionally a certificate from the Lord Mayor of the city of Essen, that furniture is not subject to confiscation, dated 28.9.1945.
All documents folded and punched multiple times, partially damaged, condition 3-4. Nevertheless very fine documentation as Army chaplain.
Extremely rare, in over 35 years of business this is the first crush cap for Army chaplains that we have been able to offer. With the provenance through the documents the cap is particularly interesting.
