Luftwaffe Flag of the 1st Battalion of the "General Göring" Regiment

circa 1935. Light green silk with three-sided silver fringe trim. On both sides a large upright white silk swastika, in the center the Prussian eagle displayed with sword and three lightning bolts in its talons, above it a light green banderole "Pro Gloria et Patria". In the 4 corners each a silver embroidered flaming grenade in the Prussian style. Below the swastika on both sides embroidered the "Southern Cross" as a tradition badge of the police in reference to the former Schutztruppe in the colonies. The flag is somewhat faded on the side flying to the right with a few minor damages, however the side flying to the left is still very fresh in color, dimensions 140 x 110 cm. On the side of the sleeve with hand-embroidered designation of the Hamburg company "Fahnen-Fleck No. 1". Overall in good condition.

In September 1933, Prussian Minister President Hermann Göring presented eight flags of this type to the "Landespolizeigruppe Wecke z.b.V.", a special unit of almost military character created by him, which received the traditional light green branch color of the Berlin Garde Jäger/Schützen. In December 1933 it was renamed "Landespolizeigruppe General Göring", then in April 1935, after its transfer to the Luftwaffe, to "Regiment General Göring". Among others, the 1st Bn. Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 1 and the guard company at Carinhall continued to carry the flags.

Luftwaffe Fanfare Banner for the Music Corps of the 1st Fallschirmjäger Division

circa 1943. Double-sided embroidered execution. The obverse in green silk cloth, with the large Parachutist Badge in gold/silver metallic thread embroidery at center. The reverse in white silk cloth featuring the divisional emblem: the green devil riding a red trident, with “1. Fallschirmjäger Division” diagonally embroidered in golden metallic thread at lower right. Surrounded by gold fringe. Five sewn bands at top for attachment to the fanfare trumpet. Minor signs of use and age, in good condition.

The 1st Fallschirmjäger Division (designated 7th Air Division until May 1, 1943) was a major formation of the German Luftwaffe.
During the reorganization of the paratrooper force in 1942/43, the 7th Air Division was redesignated as the 1st Fallschirmjäger Division in May 1943. At that time, the division was stationed in Avignon, France. Here the divisional music corps received the new kettledrum skirts and fanfare banners. Shortly thereafter, the division was transferred to Sicily and fought on Italian soil until the end of the war. During the winter and spring of 1945, the unit was positioned south of Bologna. In April 1945, the 1st F.D. was withdrawn to the Po River and crossed it as the last unit. Together with other German troops, a withdrawal movement toward the Alps took place. On May 2, combat operations on the Italian front ceased, and on May 8, 1945, the general capitulation of the German Wehrmacht occurred. Except for the divisional staff, most members of the division escaped toward Switzerland. The kettledrum skirts and fanfare banners were hidden from the Allies by members of the division; some pieces were captured by U.S. soldiers. Some of the hidden pieces were recovered by veterans after the war and smuggled to Germany—they are now located in the Luftwaffen-Museum Berlin-Gatow.

Our fanfare banner represents U.S. war booty and is probably the only fanfare banner of the 1st Fallschirm Division not in a museum.
Extremely rare; no other example in private ownership is known to us.

Legion Condor - Commemorative Gift from the 3rd Staffel of Jagdgruppe 88 to their Company Sergeant Major

Large silver-plated trophy cup with lid, total height 49 cm, multi-part construction, blackened wooden base, metal intermediate piece, Bakelite intermediate piece and the cup. The lid also with a Bakelite intermediate piece. Cup front engraved with Spanish coat of arms. Hammered into the lid: LC Espana 1938/39 unserem Spiess das Uffz.-Korps 3./J.88. In good condition with beautiful patina.
Jagdgruppe 88 (J/88) was a German fighter aircraft unit. Along with Kampfgruppe 88 (K/88), it was the largest flying unit of the Legion Condor, which participated on Franco's side in the Spanish Civil War and, despite its relatively modest size, made a significant contribution to the victory over the Spanish Republic. The nominal squadron strength was twelve fighters each.
3. Staffel - Unlike the first two squadrons, the 3rd Staffel (3./J88) was initially designated as a close air support squadron from the beginning; accordingly, it was the last to convert to the Bf 109. Like the other squadrons, it operated during the first period of the war in rapid succession from various field airfields, mostly in the center of the country. These included Escalona and Villa del Prado. He 51C

At the end of March 1937, it moved with the rest of the Gruppe to Vitoria in the north, and during the Battle of Brunete it flew once more from Villa del Prado, relocating at the end of July 1937 to the northern theater of war at Calohorra del Boedo. Also in July 1937, Adolf Galland took command of the Staffel for the remainder of its time as a He-51 squadron. After a few weeks, the 3./J88 was relocated in mid-August 1937 together with the 1.J/88 closer to the front at Orzales, moving in early September with the rest of the Gruppe to the two airfields in the Santander area.

In early January 1938, during the Battle of Teruel, the 3rd and 4th J/88 were stationed at Calamocha. After the end of this battle, the entire Gruppe was concentrated at Gallur at the end of February for regeneration, and during the Aragon Offensive the two He 51 squadrons flew from Sariñena and Bujaraloz. After Franco's troops broke through to the Mediterranean and during the advance toward Valencia, further employment of the He 51 was no longer justifiable and both squadrons were relieved of their duties.

However, the 3. J/88 was immediately reconstituted as a Bf 109 unit and, like the other two Bf-109 squadrons, flew fighter missions from La Sénia for the next few months. Under the command of their new Staffelkapitän Werner Mölders, it achieved the most aerial victories of all three Bf-109 squadrons in the second half of 1938. During this time, Mölders perfected the new tactical doctrine begun the previous year by Lützow. The final fighter missions were flown in early 1939 in the province of Barcelona.
