Brunswick, circa 1910. The cartridge box with fittings of genuine silver, mounted on the front with a large gilt appliqué bearing the coat of arms of Brunswick, supported by two lions, the arms inscribed “Wilh: Herzog zu Braunschw · Lüneb.”, on the bandeaus the battle honors “·Mars la Tour·” and “*Peninsula Sicily Waterloo*”, the box covered in red morocco leather, with lion head suspension mounts on the sides. The leather on the reverse shows clear signs of wear from use, but otherwise beautifully preserved. Condition 2.
This cartridge box comes from the estate of the Recum family and belonged to Rudolf Heinrich Freiherr von Recum, who served in Hussar Regiment No. 17 and retired from this regiment in 1910. He is mentioned in the “Rangliste der königlich preußischen Armee ... für 1909”. In the “Ehren-Rangliste des ehemaligen Deutschen Heeres” from 1926, three Freiherren von Recum are mentioned: Generalmajor Rudolf Heinrich von Recum (*1861, † 1944) and an Oberst Frhr. von Recum, both in the Bekleidungs-Ausschuss for the XV. Armeekorps, as well as Leutnant Rudolph Alfred Bogdan Freiherr von Recum (*1896, † 1990), who served in Hussar Regiment No. 17 during World War I. He was the son of Generalmajor Rudolf Heinrich von Recum.
