Circa 1910. Elegant lightweight leather helmet in officer quality complete with all fittings in gilt finish. Front features the Bavarian coat of arms in officer pattern. Domed scale chains on rosettes, both cockades in enlisted pattern. The cross piece with ball-headed split pins, however the neck with pearl edging as for officers, the spike removable, the neck guard as for officers without ventilation slide. Bavaria WWI Field-Gray Model 1908 Tunic and Trousers for a Gefreiter (Lance Corporal) in the 11th Infantry Regiment von der Tann

Peacetime garrison Regensburg, circa 1914. Manufactured from early field-gray cloth of fine pre-war quality. The high standing collar, button placket, and cuff flaps piped in red, the buttons of the button placket in iron toned field-gray, the buttons of the cuff flaps in bronzed bronze with Bavarian lion. On the collar the gilt Gefreiter buttons. Sewn-in field-gray shoulder straps with white piping. Interior with brown lining, without field dressing pocket. Together with matching long field-gray trousers by the same tailor, made in the same cloth, with red piping on the sides.
The tunic and trousers are nearly unworn, in mint condition - “in mint condition”.
The typical field tunic of a Bavarian Gefreiter at the beginning of WWI.

Stationed in Augsburg. Circa 1910. Elegant, particularly lightweight leather helmet, complete with all fittings in gilt finish. Front features the Bavarian coat of arms in the finely crafted officer's pattern. Domed scale chains as for officers on rosettes, both cockades in enlisted pattern. The crosspiece as for enlisted men with ball-head split pins, however the neck guard as for officers with pearl edging, the spike removable, the neck visor as for officers without ventilation slide. Unit property piece in the style worn around 1914. Complete leather helmet with all fittings, front with small helmet plate with applied silver Reserve cross, original leather chin strap on button 91, with both cockades. Interior with glued leather lining. The neck guard with handwritten size “53” and unit stamp “9IR1898”, visible in the shell is the older date “89”, another unit stamp and the later unit stamp “7.R.I.R. 4.B.”. The shell with several old filled holes from the conversion from the cruciform base and large plate to the disk and small plate. The crown of the plate with old solder joint. Condition 2.

A very interesting and long-worn helmet! This is a unit property piece from around 1889 still with cruciform base and large helmet plate, which was adapted around 1896 to the new model with disk and small plate. The old holes were filled at that time. At the beginning of World War I it was then transferred to the 7th Reserve Infantry Regiment established on 02.08.1914.

Bavarian Enlisted Men's Visor Cap for the 3rd Chevaulegers Regiment Herzog Karl Theodor

Garrison location Dieuze. Private purchase item circa 1910. The visor cap made of dark green cloth with rose-colored band and piping, complete with both cockades. Interior with brown sweatband and red and salmon-colored silk lining with maker “...Emil Halb... Dieuze”, on the sweatband handwritten size “56”. Very well preserved. Condition 2.

After the Franco-Prussian War, Dieuze became part of the newly created Imperial Territory of Alsace-Lorraine of the German Empire through the Peace of Frankfurt in 1871. In the following years, Dieuze was the garrison location of a German military presence with one infantry and one cavalry regiment: From 1887 to 1906, Infantry Regiment No. 136 was stationed here, and from 1906 until the outbreak of World War I, Infantry Regiment No. 138. Additionally, from 1890 onward, the Bavarian Chevaulegers Regiment No. 3 was stationed in the town. At times, the town had more soldiers than civilian inhabitants.

The helmet was introduced in 1868 and worn until 1886. It differs from the Raupenhelm for infantry by the socket for mounting the plume, and from the Raupenhelme for Chevaulegers, artillery, etc. by the absence of saber guards. In this form the helmet was also worn by medical companies, but with red instead of green plume.

The “colored tunic” was still occasionally worn for parades and home leave after the introduction of the field-gray tunic (for field service). It was not officially replaced by the service tunic (dress tunic) Model 1915 until 1915/16.

Worn circa 1919. Light leather helmet, complete with all fittings in silver-plated finish. The helmet plate silver-plated, at center with applied enameled Bavarian coat of arms, the crown above the medallion deliberately removed (!), the crown on the head of the right lion broken off (this appears to have occurred frequently, as several known examples show repairs in this area), the silver plating worn. Crosspiece with fluted spike and large silver-plated stars. Scaled chin chains, both cockades present. Squared front visor. Interior with brown leather sweatband, the liner missing (!). Size 56. This helmet is a historically highly interesting piece from the transitional period from the Imperial Army to the Weimar Reichswehr. During the transition, the crown above the medallion was removed as a symbol of the monarchy.

Very rare! Only a few examples of the Model 1861 helmet were produced and the helmet was also slowly distributed to the troops. After 1868, the existing helmets received leather chin straps instead of scale chains like the Model 1868 helmet and new emblems, since in the meantime Maximilian II had also died.

Circa 1864, adapted 1873. The czapka of black lacquered leather and crimson cloth on rattan framework, front emblem with cipher “L”, silver scale chains on lion head mounts, the fastener of the scale chains at front with perforation for attachment to the small hook decorated with a lion head below the top (this was removed per regulations in 1873; in that year the chin strap was introduced and the lion head hook was moved from the front underside to the top; this is missing on this example (!)). Inserted on the top is the plume of white horsehair with the white-blue cockade (this was regulation from 1864, after 1873 worn only for parade as the newly introduced field insignia was worn for duty). On the front visor the nickel silver reinforcement strip introduced in 1873 is attached. Interior with glued leather lining. Size approximately 54. Condition 2.

Home garrison Dieuze. Personal property circa 1916/17. The field-gray tunic in a lightweight version made of a linen-like fabric for summer wear, complete with all components. The turn-down collar, the cuff flaps, and the breast panel for the regiment with rose-pink piping, the side pockets closed with a button as with enlisted men, the cuff flaps with extra pockets in front, e.g., for maps, on the shoulders the field-gray shoulder straps introduced in 1916 for the regiment with green and rose-pink secondary colors sewn on. Interior with two breast pockets, the hem with fine blue lining. Condition 2.

A very fine example! In this version with the extra pockets on the sleeves, the double breast pockets inside, the closeable side pockets, and the overall lightweight construction, this is a custom-made piece for a combat-experienced officer. In 1916, the squadrons of the regiment participated in the Battle of the Somme.

The bicorn of black needle felt with white plumes, on the right side with silver agraffe on blue-white silk ribbon, the silver button with the emblem of the Order of Saint George. Interior with black silk sweatband and white silk lining. In original box.
Red tailcoat with white cuff facings and piping, two rows of 7 silver buttons each with the emblem of the Order of Saint George, white parade rabat applied to the front of the coat, on the shoulders the silver-embroidered large epaulettes decorated with sequins and the George Cross with silver rigid bullion wire. Interior of the coat lined with quilted white silk.
Additionally the white cloth breeches with silver-embroidered seam stripes with red insets and the white gloves for the dress coat.
Magnificent silver-mounted sword. The blade 76 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, the forward end double-edged, the lower end grooved on both sides, blued and decorated with gilt engravings, on the false edge of the verso the maker “Joh. Stroblberger München”. Finely chased silver hilt with floral ornamentation, on the front of the guard Saint George slaying the dragon, mother-of-pearl grip scales. Attached sword knot of the Order in silver braid with red insets and the George Cross on the stem. Leather scabbard with nickel-silver mounts, the locket sits loosely. Additionally the carrying strap for the sword.
All parts in beautiful condition! A magnificent ensemble of high quality!

The Royal House Order of Saint George is the house order of the Bavarian Electors, founded in 1729. It is named after Saint George, the patron saint of knights. It was the highest order of nobility of the Electorate and the Kingdom of Bavaria.
The members were divided into 6 Grand Commanders (Grand Cross Knights), 12 Commanders and Knights, the number of annual admissions was limited to 6. The Grand Master is always the head of the House of Wittelsbach, male members of the royal house were admitted with the rank of Grand Priors.
