LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin was a rigid airship from the Zeppelin company, which entered service on September 18, 1928 after 21 months of construction. LZ 127, its official designation was D-LZ127, is considered the most successful passenger airship of this era.
To finance the construction, Hugo Eckener established the so-called Zeppelin-Eckener-Spende fundraising campaign. This collection raised 2.3 million Reichsmarks, which however only partially covered the construction costs. After lengthy negotiations, the Reich contributed 1.1 million Reichsmarks and the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH raised 0.8 million Reichsmarks from its own resources.
