It was garrisoned at the Rathenower Straße 9-18 barracks in Berlin-Tiergarten (Moabit).

The Kommando Wachtruppe was composed of companies from all infantry regiments of the Reichswehr, rotated to Berlin on a scheduled basis. It consisted of seven rifle companies, with each of the seven divisions of the Reichswehr providing one company. In addition to the seven rifle companies, the command included a machine gun company and an artillery battery, specially detailed for this purpose. The companies were typically relieved after three months.
