Personal property item, circa 1910. Leather helmet, complete with all fittings in nickel-plated finish. Helmet plate features the silver-plated Saxon coat of arms held by 2 lions, small civil servant cross finial with tall spike in the pattern for civil servants, flat scale chin chains on rosettes with slotted screws, right side with Saxon cockade for enlisted ranks. Interior with lashed leather lining, size 55. The helmet shows only minimal wear and is in excellent condition, includes matching helmet storage case. Rarely found in this quality.

Circa 1914. Elegant Pickelhaube made of vulcanized fiber, complete with all fittings in gilt finish. Front features the large star with applied silver-plated Saxon coat of arms. Flat scale chains on rosettes, both cockades in the distinctive Saxon style. The spike is removable. Interior with brown leather sweatband and brown silk grosgrain lining, the front visor lined in green and the rear visor in red. Inside the bell, handwritten size “57 1/2”. Condition 2.

Personal item circa 1895. Leather helmet, complete with all fittings. Front bears the helmet star with applied “frosted” silver-plated Saxon coat of arms. Flat scale chains on iron screws with small rosettes, on the right the Saxon state cockade in small metal construction. The spike is non-removable. Interior with leather sweatband and brown silk lining, inside the bell handwritten size “56.5” and remains of a label “Bezirks-Kommand[...] C[...] [...]ea[...]”. Condition 2.

Located in Berlin, circa 1913/14. Elegant helmet made of vulcanized fiber, complete with all fittings. Front features a silver-plated star with applied gilt Saxon coat of arms. Flat gilt chin scales attached to silver-plated rosettes, both cockades in the distinctive Saxon style. Silver-plated base plate with silver-plated removable spike, gilt stars, front visor trim and neck guard trim silver-plated. Interior with brown leather sweatband and green silk grosgrain lining, front visor lined in green and rear neck guard lined in red. Size approximately 57. Lightly worn, still uncleaned in untouched original condition, condition grade 2.

Extremely rare! There were probably no more than 6 officers total in both companies! Offered for only the second time in 40 years on the market!

Circa 1900. Leather helmet, executed in the manner of a Saxon general, for General Staff officers complete with all fittings in silvered finish. On the front, the large star with superimposed star of the House Order of the Rue Crown, the center finely enameled, with the motto “providentiae memor” and the Saxon coat of arms. Domed scale chains on rosettes, both cockades, the state cockade in the special Saxon form. Plate with gilt star screws, detachable six-fluted spike. Interior with leather sweatband and green silk lining, the front visor lined in green and the rear visor in red. Size approximately 57. Worn but beautifully preserved. Condition 2.

Extremely rare! A very special piece!

In the Saxon Army, the general's helmet with silver fittings was worn only by officers of the General Staff!

Unlike in the Prussian Army, generals à la suite, adjutant generals, and members of the War Ministry wore helmets with gilt fittings like the generals.

This is only the 2nd helmet of this type we have been able to offer in over 35 years of business!

Personal item circa 1915/16. The tunic made of fine field-gray cloth with turn-down collar, two side pockets and a single row of eight matte bronzed crown buttons, the collar, cuff slashes, button panel, hem and coat skirts with red piping, the coat skirts in typical Saxon style, cut straight and with only one button each, manufactured without suspension hooks, sewn onto the shoulders are the shoulder straps with the “Roman” numeral «XIX» embroidered in red for the Army Corps. For the Feldwebel on the collar a field-gray braid and the large field-gray coat-of-arms buttons and on the sleeves two field-gray braids each. On the left breast with two loops for orders/decorations. Interior with olive-green silk lining. Very beautifully preserved! Few pinhead-sized moth holes in barely visible locations. Condition 2.

A very beautiful and interesting piece! The first tunic for a career Feldwebel in a clothing department that we have ever been able to offer!

Personal item circa 1900. The visor cap made of dark green cloth with black velvet band and red piping, black lacquered visor made of vulcanized fiber, both cockades present. Interior with brown leather sweatband and reddish-brown lining with the initials “W. M.”. Size approximately 54. Condition 2.

Circa 1890. Tall visor cap of black cloth with black velvet band and bold red piping, short black lacquered visor, Saxon state cockade on front. Interior with dark brown leather sweatband and black oilcloth lining bearing the maker’s mark “Oscar Schieblich Kürschner Netzschkau”. Above this, small portrait of Georg of Saxony in the uniform of a Prussian Generalfeldmarschall (Field Marshal) surrounded by oak and laurel leaves beneath the Imperial crown. Size approximately 56. Condition 2+.

Georg was King of Saxony from 1902 to 1904. During the Franco-Prussian War he commanded the XII. Armeekorps (XII Army Corps). At Versailles in 1871 he represented Saxony at the proclamation of the German Empire. In 1888 he was appointed Prussian Generalfeldmarschall.
The cap corresponds to the type worn during the Franco-Prussian War, but dates only after 1888. It was likely worn by a veteran of that war.

Stationed in Dresden. Private purchase item circa 1900. Blue tunic with a single row of eight tombac buttons, red standing collar and red “Saxon” cuff flaps, both with white Guard lace. Sewn-on shoulder straps in the Saxon pattern with red piping and yellow embroidered cipher “WRI”. Interior with black silk lining. Very well preserved. Condition 2+.

Included is a very fine reproduction photograph in color of a wearer!

Private purchase item circa 1910. The visor cap in high plate form with green cloth with black piping and red pipings, black lacquered visor, both cockades. Interior with light brown sweatband and fine green lining. Size approximately 54. The crown edge with an approximately 2mm moth hole. Condition 2.

Garrison Pirna/Riesa circa 1910. Light leather helmet complete with all fittings in silver-plated finish. Front features the star with applied gilt Saxon coat of arms. As a personal modification (approved by the battalion commander), domed scale chains attached to rosettes, both cockades in the distinctive Saxon style. The plate with gilt stars, the spike removable. Interior with brown leather sweatband and brown grosgrain lining, the front visor lined in green and the rear visor lined in red, handwritten size “58 ½” inside the bell. Condition 2.

Transferred to the Clothing Depot in 1916. Leather helmet, complete with all fittings. Front features the helmet star with applied nickel-silver Saxon Landwehr cross and the Saxon coat of arms mounted thereon. Leather chinstrap on button 91, both cockades in Saxon pattern. Interior with laced leather lining. Stamped inside the dome “241 B.D.III. 1916”. Size approximately 54. Condition 2.

Flat scale chin chains on rosettes, right side with Saxon cockade, neck guard without ventilation slide. Interior with lined sweatband, inside the bell maker's label “... Königl. Polizeisergeant”. Size approximately 56. Worn, condition 2.

Circa 1910. The bandolier with gold braid on ponceau red cloth backing, gilt fittings, front with “frosted” silver-plated Saxon coat of arms. The large cartridge box with gilt lid and side panels, on the lid applied nickel silver crowned Saxon coat of arms with flags and cannon barrels, the rim “frosted” silver-plated, the body of the box made of zinc sheet metal with ponceau red cloth covering, the cloth covering with slight moth damage not visible from the outside. The waist belt of red leather with gold braid and fittings. In original cardboard box. Condition 2.

Circa 1855. Tall leather helmet in “Greek style”, complete with all fittings in gilt brass. The tall brass comb with “fishbladder decoration” on the sides, the rear attachment executed as “acanthus leaf”. Two brass reinforcing straps mounted on each side of the skull. Front plate in brass with the royal monogram “JR” (Johann rex; King 1854, † 1873) at center, the shield topped with the large royal crown, oak leaf decoration on the sides, the field with waffle pattern decoration. Large “feathered” scale chin chains, the scales alternating with smooth and granulated surfaces, attached laterally to mounts with “Medusa head”. Saxon cockade on left side above mount. Interior with laced leather lining. Front visor lined in green. Size approximately 56. Minor wear and age patina. Condition 2.

The helmet corresponds structurally to the Model 1821 helmet. From 1849 the previously worn caterpillar crest was eliminated and the skull was made somewhat lower. From 1853 the royal monogram “JR” was used. In 1867 a new helmet was introduced.

The tunic made of field-gray wool cloth with turn-down collar, two side pockets and a single row of eight matte bronzed crown buttons, the collar, cuff flaps, button placket, hem and skirt pleats with red piping, the cuff flaps cut in “Saxon style,” the skirt pleats in typical Saxon execution, cut straight and with only one button each, manufactured without carrying hooks. Sewn onto the shoulders are the shoulder straps for a Major with the unit number “178”. Sewn into the buttonhole is the ribbon for the “Iron Cross 1914”. Lined inside with olive-green cloth.
