World War I

Privately procured of German manufacture, circa 1916/17. Body constructed of cork, externally covered with brown waxed linen. Interior with brown sweatband and blue silk lining, the sweatband with label "79", the visor lined in green. Condition 2.

The "Roold" type protective helmet was popular among German aviators in addition to the official issue helmet. Originally, this helmet type was manufactured by the French firm Roold in Paris.

Leather flight helmet with circumferential reinforcement ring and crown padding. Complete with ear flaps and neck protection as well as chin strap. Interior leather lining stamped with unit marking “Flg. Bekl. Döberitz 1918”. Size “58” marked in the crown. Condition 2.

On May 1, 1910, the “Provisorische Fliegerschule Döberitz” (Provisional Flying School Döberitz) was officially inaugurated at Döberitz airfield. In 1914, the central training and testing facility of the newly formed Luftstreitkräfte (Imperial German Air Service) was established here.

Circa 1916/17. Trousers made of brown corduroy fabric with three pockets and horn buttons. Waist circumference approximately 90 cm, length approximately 98 cm. Nearly unworn. Condition 2.

This is a chamber piece from 1908 which was issued to Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 86 around 1917.
