Weimar Republic 1919-1933

This is a bicorne hat of the Reichsmarine, as worn from 1933 until the transition to the Kriegsmarine in 1935. Elegant bicorne made of black needle felt, the brim trimmed with black silk grosgrain ribbon. On the left side with black/white/red pleated silk cockade, gold agraffe and naval button (the Reichsadler cockade of the Weimar Republic was no longer worn after 1933). Interior with light-colored sweatband leather, white silk lining, size 57. Only lightly worn in very good condition. Complete with the original hat case.
From 1935, with the renaming to Kriegsmarine, the naval button was replaced with the gilt button bearing the national eagle.

Circa 1925. Black lacquered leather shako with black cloth cover, complete with all fittings. On the front the highly domed silver star with the “flying Prussian eagle”, black enameled, silver-plated chin scales on rosettes, silver officer's cockade with black velvet filling. Interior with brown leather sweatband and brown silk lining, the body interior with handwritten size “55½”. The cloth cover on the reverse with moth damage. Condition 2.

circa 1925, light blue tunic (jacket). Black standing collar and black cuff facings, light blue gabardine, 2 concealed breast pockets and hip pockets. Black wool lining interior. Measurements: chest circumference approx. 80 cm, sleeve length approx. 60 cm, back length 70 cm. Moth damage to left upper arm and shoulder. Shoulder boards and collar tabs have been removed. Worn piece, condition 3.
Together with matching black trousers, with red piping on sides, waist circumference 90 cm, length 109 cm. The stamps inside are not period. Condition 2-.

Circa 1925. Black leather shako, front bearing star with Prussian eagle 1st Model, lacquered cockade with soldering traces, leather chin strap attached to button 91. Interior with stitched lining. Size 56. Clearly worn, condition 2-.

circa 1930. Dark blue sailor cap, complete with all insignia. Color-woven cap tally “Schulschiff Deutschland”, with the Reich cockade above. Interior with light brown sweatband, navy blue lining with manufacturer's imprint “Die gute blaue Mütze”. Size 53. Worn piece, in good condition.

The training ship Schulschiff Deutschland was commissioned in 1927 by the Deutscher Schulschiff-Verein (DSV). On June 14, 1927, the Schulschiff Deutschland was launched at the Tecklenborg shipyard in Wesermünde. Her home port was Elsfleth. To instruct prospective sailors in practical seamanship, the ship undertook regular training voyages, in winter in the Atlantic to overseas destinations (mostly Africa and Caribbean/South America), in summer in the North and Baltic Seas. The last winter voyage to the South Atlantic ended on March 22, 1939 at the roadstead of Bremerhaven, and during World War II training voyages took place only in the Baltic Sea; the ship's berth was therefore from April 15, 1940 on the western shore of the Swine in the Bay of Pomerania, then from November 1941 in Lübeck. From 1927 to 1939, 12 overseas voyages were undertaken and from 1928 to 1944 a total of 17 North and Baltic Sea voyages. The last ended on October 1, 1944.

Circa 1930. Visor cap made of black cloth with red piping, featuring the Reich cockade and the Württemberg coat of arms on the front, black lacquered visor. Interior with brown leather sweatband, gray lining and stamp “Albert Ziegler Schlauchfabrik Giengen a. Brenz ...”. Size 55. Condition 2.

Circa 1938. Visor cap made of blue cloth with dark blue velvet cap band, Baden cockade at front, black lacquered visor. Interior with brown leather sweatband and light-colored lining with maker “Ludwig Vögele ... Karlsruhe” and stamp “Stadt Karlsruhe ...1938”. Size approximately 58. Condition 2.
