Imperial German Navy WWI Officer's Saber – Wartime Production

Circa 1915. Slightly curved blade, approximately 1.95 cm wide and 75.9 cm long, with fullers and etching on both sides, obverse side featuring an anchor with the Imperial Crown, reverse side depicting a scene with warships, maker's mark of Eickhorn on the ricasso, blade somewhat stained/pitted with light surface rust, tip with minor rust pitting. Steel hilt with lion's head pommel featuring one red and one green glass eye, guard foldable on both sides, ivory grip with intact wire wrapping, gilding of the hilt preserved only in small traces. Leather scabbard with steel mounts, gilding also lost here, lower carrying ring missing, hooks on the mounts missing, causing the mounts to sit loosely. Condition 3.

Overall length approximately 93.5 cm.

Could be restored with some effort.

Imperial German Navy Officer's Saber

Clean blade with fullers on both sides and maritime etching, without identifiable maker's mark, interestingly designed brass hilt, folding guard with unclear anchor in oval, surrounded by various marine creatures such as fish/starfish/octopus, bone grip with stress crack, intact wire wrapping, the lion's head pommel is missing the green glass eye, black leather scabbard with finely decorated brass fittings, simple retaining clips, the folding guard bears the name engraving “O.Morsbach”, the fittings are heavily darkened, but otherwise well preserved. Condition 2

Blade length approximately 740mm
Overall length approximately 900mm

The name Morsbach cannot be found in the Roll of Honor, therefore it can be assumed that the gentleman left service before World War I.

Imperial German Navy Saber for an Officer in the Marinekorps Flandern

Rigid steel hilt with remnants of bluing, the lion head pommel without glass eyes, the grip with intact wire wrap, plain spear-point blade, maker's mark of “Hörster Solingen”, some spotting, with the special steel scabbard, which is black lacquered and has engraved fittings, the scabbard throat is designed so that the spring of the scabbard lock does not interfere, the locking pin is still present, two movable carrying rings, with original sword knot attached, signs of age and use, rare piece in good condition. Condition 2-

The Marinekorps Flandern comprised various naval units, the ground units were later reorganized into naval infantry regiments, they wore predominantly field gray. Thus various officers carried the blackened naval officer's saber with steel scabbard, similar to how infantry officers carried blackened edged weapons.

Curved blade approximately 2.4 cm wide and 86.5 cm long, with fullers on both sides and etched decorations, the blade heavily stained/pitted with rust. Brass hilt with lion's head featuring red glass eyes, the guard foldable on the quarte side, tierce side with indistinct anchor under the imperial crown, the guard slightly deformed on the tierce side, bone grip, the wire wrapping somewhat deformed. Leather scabbard with brass fittings, metal plates loose, the scabbard previously cracked and repaired on the quarte side with a piece of leather, shrunk by approximately 3 cm. Condition 3.

Overall length approximately 102 cm.

Imperial German Navy World War I Officer's Saber from the Estate of Staff Surgeon Dr. Albert Kühne, from 1918 on “U 151” - Wartime Production in Mint Condition!

Circa 1917/18. Nickel-plated fullered blade, 1.9 cm wide and 76.5 cm long, with fuller, the lower half of the blade etched on both sides, on the back hand-engraved with the owner's name “A. Kühne”, the blade slightly spotted. Gilt steel hilt with lion's head pommel with one green and one red glass eye, the guard foldable on both sides. The grip of celluloid with intact wire wrapping. Sword knot attached. Leather scabbard with steel fittings. The original gilding is still completely intact, condition 2++

Overall length 91.5 cm.

An exceptionally well-preserved, hardly worn example of a type that is extremely rarely found!

Dr. Albert Kühne initially served at the Fortress Hospital Wilhelmshaven, then transferred to “Rheinland” and later to the U-cruiser Flotilla, where he served on “U 151”. An extract from the Honor Roll of the Imperial German Navy is included.

Slightly curved fullered blade, approximately 2.2 cm wide and 76.3 cm long, with guard, etched on both sides, anchor with Imperial crown on the obverse, maker's mark “W.K&C” on the reverse edge, blade showing considerable spotting and light rust pitting. Chased brass hilt with lion head pommel without glass eyes, the guard hinged on the reverse side, engraved with owner's name “E. Böckelmann”, obverse side with partially visible anchor and Imperial crown, ivory grip with intact wire wrap, gilding approximately 30% intact. Leather scabbard with brass fittings, metal mounts sitting loose. Condition 2-3.

This is a product manufactured by WKC, Solingen, circa 1900. Wedge-shaped blade with bilateral maritime etching, manufacturer’s mark on the ricasso. Four-piece brass grip with gold plating, the grip section features raised oak leaf decoration topped with an Imperial crown, single-piece crossguard with Imperial crown, fixed quillon with indistinct anchor. Black leather scabbard with gold-plated brass fittings featuring oak leaf decoration. A very fine dagger, overall length 570 mm. Condition 2

Circa 1885. This is a product manufactured by WKC. The grip is made of ivory without wire wrapping, typical small cracks inherent to ivory are visible, closed imperial crown, the set screw is missing here, the double-etched blade is clean, on the ricasso the manufacturer's mark knight's helmet, the crossguard with push button for scabbard locking mechanism, lightning scabbard, on the reverse side engraved with owner's name “Rieve”, langet-style suspension rings. Worn piece, in good condition. Condition 2

All fittings of bronze, the gilt finish largely worn, the grip of ivory with silver wire wrap, open crown, the cross is missing here, the crossguard with push button on reverse, the blade of fine Damascus steel, nickel-plated and blued decorative etching on both sides in the first third, on the obverse crowned anchor with water lilies, on the reverse sailing ship with water lilies, without maker's mark, but with unclear supplier “Aug. Lüneburg, Kiel”, stamped on the bolster (under the crossguard) “D.R.G.M. 110746”, the scabbard with lanyard-form ring bands and fittings in Art Deco style, lanyard-form suspension rings, lightly worn, in good condition.
