Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt

Circa 1860. Tall leather helmet in the Prussian pattern, complete with all fittings. On the front the crowned Schwarzburg double-headed eagle, flat scale chin chains attached with iron screws, the clasp of the scale chain replaced, on the right the cockade for the Principality. Crosspiece with ball-head screws, detachable fluted spike. Interior with reinforced leather lining (probably replaced). Size 54. 

Very rare.

The Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt contingent for the Federal Army comprised in 1848 a half-battalion, consisting of 2 fusilier companies and one Jäger detachment, totaling 539 men.
Initially, from 1845 onward, a helmet based on the Bavarian model was worn. The helmet based on the Prussian model was not introduced until the mid-19th century.

Location Rudolstadt, circa 1914. Elegant helmet of finest peacetime quality made of vulcanized fiber, complete with all fittings. Front features the finely crafted eagle, for the reserve officer without bandeau, mounted with the genuine silver star with the likewise genuine silver Rudolstadt coat of arms applied on top, below with applied reserve cross, however for Prussian officers with the motto “Mit Gott für König..”. Flat scale chains on rosettes, complete with both cockades. Interior with brown leather sweatband and brown silk grosgrain lining, the front visor lined in green and the neck guard lined in red. Handwritten size “56” inside the bell. With the original camouflage cover. Only lightly worn. Condition 2.

Location Rudolstadt. Private purchase item circa 1914/15. Manufactured in finest peacetime quality. The helmet made of vulcanized fiber, complete with all fittings. At the front the finely crafted and gilt line infantry eagle with the motto “Mit Gott für Fürst und Vaterland” (With God for Prince and Fatherland), on the breast with silver star and applied coat of arms of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Flat scale chains on rosettes, both cockades, the ring of the Reich cockade painted field gray. The crown with star screws, the spike non-detachable. Interior with brown sweatband and fine white liner, the front visor painted green and the rear visor painted red, the bell lined inside with black felt. Size approximately 55. Condition 2.

Extremely rare, one of the rarest helmets of the old Army!
