Three-bar brass hilt with leather-wrapped grip, incomplete wire binding, curved blade with wide and additional narrow fuller, the blade spine engraved "Mre d'arms de Chatt-...bre1877=Cavlre Mle1822", somewhat darkened, the scabbard with one carrying ring, quite heavily rusted, but otherwise in quite good condition. Emirate of Bukhara - Saber for Cavalry Officers

Circa 1900/1910. English manufacture, saber Model 1895/97. Nickel-plated blade, etched on both sides, decorated with floral patterns, Arabic inscription in bandeau on both sides, on the back edge with manufacturer marking “...Wilkinson Sword...”. Nickel-plated, pierced hilt, with coat of arms in the guard featuring coat of arms, crescent and crown, leather-covered grip with intact wire wrapping. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with two ring mounts and movable suspension rings. Only slight wear and age traces. Condition 2.

The Emirate of Bukhara was located north of Afghanistan. Central Asia with Afghanistan and Bukhara was the scene of the so-called “Great Game” in the 19th century, the conflict over spheres of influence between Great Britain and Russia. The saber dates from the period of Abdul-Ahad bin Muzaffar al-Din or Muhammad Alim Khan bin Abdul-Ahad. The latter was the last Emir of Bukhara and died in exile in Afghanistan.
