Badge of Honor of November 9, 1923, so-called “Blood Order”, 2nd Model. Silver medal, reverse with award number “1857” above silver hallmark “800”. On original sewn ribbon. Lightly worn with very attractive dark patina, condition 2.
The Blood Order with award number 1857 was awarded to one of the 177 recipients on nomination list No. VII of May 30, 1939. The recipients came primarily from Niederösterreich, Kärnten and Tirol as well as some from the Altreich who were subsequently submitted for award for their prison sentences.
The Badge of Honor of November 9, 1923 was instituted on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the “National Socialist uprising of November 9, 1923” by the Führer of the NSDAP Adolf Hitler. The manner of wearing was regulated by decree on February 11, 1934. The award criteria designated the following eligible recipients:
1. Members of the SA, members of the Bund Reichskriegsflagge and Oberland, which were united in the Deutscher Kampfbund, who participated in the fighting on November 8/9, 1923.
2. Members of the above-mentioned organizations, the police and Wehrmacht, who sided with the putschists and thereby lost their positions or requested dismissal on account of their political stance, regardless of whether they fought or not.
3. Members of the above-mentioned organizations who were set in march for combat operations but did not see action because they were stopped by government forces or failed to reach the deployment location due to force majeure.
The award required uninterrupted membership in the NSDAP before January 30, 1933 or in the SA. On May 30, 1938, the awards that had been suspended on April 1, 1935 were resumed and the circle of recipients was expanded. This included all those imprisoned who had served a prison sentence of at least 1 year in the Weimar Republic for their struggle for the NSDAP movement in Germany and Austria. Of the 1st Model of the Blood Order, only 1,500 awards were made from 1934 to 1935. Of the 2nd Model, pieces with award numbers up to approximately 4300 are known. The official records end with the year 1942. The Blood Order was considered the highest decoration of the NSDAP.
