Lapel button, with certificate, dated 30.06.1945, condition 2

Complete WWII British Army battledress ensemble attributed to the Wessex Infantry Division, with D.C.L.I. (Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry) arc titles.


Battledress Blouse (1940 Pattern). Serge wool, with Wessex Infantry Division patches to both sleeves and “D.C.L.I.” arc. Inside label: “Battledress Blouses 1940 Pattern: Size 16”, maker Heredo Clothiers Ltd., dated 1944 (faint). Measurements: arm length 68 cm, chest circumference 98 cm, length 55 cm. Condition: 1 (very good).
- Beret, with attached Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry cap badge, interior marked J. Collette? London 1945, size 58, with War Department stamp. Condition: 2+ (good).


- Wool Shirt (extra large) – Arm length 65 cm, chest circumference 112 cm, length 91 cm. Condition: 2+ (good).


Trousers with no Quartermaster stamps present. Waist 94 cm, length 119 cm. Condition: 2+ (good).

Circa 1800. Silver on brass chain, diameter 4.75 cm, obverse shows the portrait of John Jervis, 1st Earl of St. Vincent, surrounded by the inscription “Earl St Vincents Testim[o]ny of Approbation. 1800”, reverse depicts a sailor and a marine before the Union Jack, crown above, inscription “Loyal and True”, the edge engraved “to Mr. Js. Baker, actl. Purser of the Ville de Paris from April 1797 to Aug. 1800.”. Condition 2.

The medal was awarded exclusively to members of Admiral John Jervis's crew who followed him from his flagship HMS “Victory” during the Battle of the Saintes in 1782 and assisted in the capture of the French flagship “Ville de Paris”, as well as those who remained loyal to him during the Nore Mutiny in 1797.
The Purser was an officer responsible for provisions and supply of the crew. Baker evidently served faithfully to his Admiral during the Battle of the Saintes and the Nore Mutiny.
At the time of the award, he was stationed aboard HMS “Ville de Paris”, a ship of the line named after the French ship of the line captured in 1782.

Brown-dyed leather, the belt with brass fittings and 5 cartridge pouches. The belt stamped "Manufactured by Great Rex Limited Johannesburg". Condition 2.

Metal housing, optics clear with reticle, with manufacturer marking “Bino Prism no2 MK III No 2333786 Kershaw O.S 420 MA MILS”. Grip panels in good condition, canvas carrier dated “1943” with neck strap, condition 2+

Circa 1850. Red cloth with white piping, gold officer's embroidery, buttons bearing the monogram “VR” and the motto “Honi soit qui mal y pense”. One button is missing its facing, one of the patches with significant moth damage. Condition 3-.

4th century A.D. The folding stool crafted from iron with damascene inlay of gold wire. The leather seat surface reconstructed in modern times. Height 66 cm. Condition 2+.

The object originates from Great Britain and was in the possession of a renowned antiquities collector since the 1990s. In 2021 it was acquired by a Spanish private collector and in 2023 sold at the Munich auction house Hermann Historica.

Extremely rare and of historical significance! Folding stools are known from pictorial and written sources as part of Roman domestic culture, but are very rarely preserved in archaeological contexts. The gold damascening furthermore indicates a high-ranking and wealthy individual as the owner of the folding stool. We are very pleased to be able to offer you this piece!

Battledress blouse in brown serge wool, tailor made, with Royal Artillery tabs sewn onto both sleeves. With ribbon bar for a World War 2 participant. Interior with brown silk lining. Sleeve length 66 cm, chest 88 cm, back length 50.5 cm. Condition 2-.

Circa 1880/90. Cork helmet with olive green cloth covering and nickel silver fittings, front bearing the distinctive unit emblem, a crowned star with applied coat of arms inscribed “Universitas Cantabrigiensis” on the bandeau below and above the arms the cipher “CVR”, cross-piece with rose screws, one replaced period, the spike removable. Complete with chin strap. Interior with brown sweatband and remains of red silk lining, around the ventilation hole the maker “Samuel Brothers London”, the visors lined in green on the interior. Size approximately 54. Together with the bandolier of brown leather with nickel silver fittings, the cartridge box at front again with the distinctive coat of arms. Condition 2.

A special exhibit! Since the 19th century, marksmanship training has been practiced at Cambridge University and was part of the education of students and future officers. During the Second Boer War 1899-1902, a volunteer corps was formed at the university, the Cambridge University Rifle Volunteers, which were attached to the Suffolk Regiment and served in South Africa.
