SS Large Silver Civil Badge as Honor Award by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler
This is a production of the workshop Otto and Karolina Gahr in München. In contrast to the normal silver-plated civil badges, the badge as an honor award is significantly larger at 14.5 mm. Made of genuine silver, the background enameled black. Reverse side with number "13502", manufacturer designation "Gahr München", "Silber" and "900". On long pin with safety catch. Lightly worn, condition 2.
The award numbers for the civil badges as honor awards differ from the SS membership numbers of the recipients.
The civil badge recipients from number 1 to number 10 were:
1. Adolf Hitler
2. Reichsführer-SS H. Himmler, SS-Nr. 168
3. SS-Oberführer Georg Aumeier, SS-Nr. 1237
4. SS-Obergruppenführer Rudolf Heß, SS-Nr. 50
5. SS-Oberführer Konrad Häfner, SS-Nr. 1896
6. SS-Obergruppenführer Sepp Dietrich, SS-Nr. 1177
7. SS-Oberscharführer Rudolf Weickert, SS-Nr. 12124
8. SS-Standartenführer Friedrich v. Reitzenstein, SS-Nr. 1643
9. Karl Schulze, SS-Nr. 8, discharged to SA in 1932
10. SS-Brigadeführer Julius Schreck, SS-Nr. 5
Whether all civil badges as honor awards were numbered is unfortunately no longer known. Furthermore, there exists a letter from SS-Hauptsturmführer Brandt, personal staff Reichsführer-SS to SS-Gruppenführer Pohl dated 16.12.1939 with the message from the Reichsführer-SS that the awarding of civil badges would be suspended during the war, whereas the death's head rings should continue to be awarded.
The 2nd badge we have been able to offer again in over 15 years, extremely rare!
