Wehrmacht Parade Dress Tunic and Trousers from the Estate of Generalmajor Franz Zednicek
- The parade dress tunic was manufactured in 1939. Elegant construction of field-gray gabardine in finest officer quality with dark green collar. Complete with all insignia. Gold metallic thread hand-embroidered breast eagle on dark green cloth hand-sewn. The button panel with 8 gilded buttons and red piping. Sewn-in shoulder boards and sleeve patches of heavy general's braid. Under the right shoulder board with button for attaching the gold parade aiguillette. The collar tabs for generals with gold embroidery on red background hand-sewn. On the chest loops for the long medal bar. Below loops for 1 badge. Interior green silk lining, at the nape with woven tailor's label “Fritsch Inh.W.Orth Offenburg”, on the side at the inner pocket with tailor's label and wearer's name “Oberstleutnant Zednicek Mai 39”. Measurements: shoulder width 45 cm, sleeve length 62 cm, back length 71 cm, moth damage at left elbow, condition 2

Franz Zednicek was the son of Military Construction Accounting Councilor Josef Zednicek and his wife Julianna, née Fischer. Since 1900 he attended the military school in Weißkirchen and from 1904 the military academy Mödling. On August 18, 1917 he was promoted to Leutnant and accepted into the k.u.k. Pionier-Bataillon 4. On October 28, 1912 he was transferred to Sappeur-Bataillon 5 and on May 25, 1915 joined the mine thrower platoon of Sappeur-Bataillon 7. Promoted to Hauptmann on July 1, 1915, Zednicek was transferred to Sappeur-Kompanie 5 on October 1, 1915. From November 4, 1918 to October 13, 1919 he was in Italian captivity. On December 27, 1919 he was transferred to the Provisorisches Versorgungsamt Krems and on February 18, 1920 to Depot Wache Wien. On August 31, 1920 he returned to the Provisorisches Versorgungsamt Krems and was transferred to Pionier-Bataillon 6 on October 9, 1920. Promoted to Major on January 1, 1921 and to Oberstleutnant on March 20, 1933, Zednicek was transferred to Pionier-Bataillon 8 on January 1, 1937. On April 15, 1937 he became commander of Pionier-Bataillon 7. On March 13, 1938 he was taken over into the Wehrmacht and transferred to the staff of Pionier-Bataillon 82. On November 10, 1938 followed the transfer to the staff of Festungs-Inspektion VIII. At the beginning of mobilization on August 26, 1939, Zednicek became commander of Oberbaustab 7. On November 10, 1939 he was transferred to the staff of the Armee-Pionierführer of the 7. Armee. In 1940 followed the transfer to the staff of Befestigungen Oberrhein. On October 25, 1940 Franz Zednicek was appointed Festungs-Pionier-Kommandeur 2 and in 1941 commander of Oberbaustab 21. On February 7, 1942 he became Festungs-Pionier-Kommandeur 2 and on April 1, 1942 was promoted to Generalmajor. Simultaneously he was transferred to the Führerreserve. On March 25, 1944 he was appointed Höherer Pionierführer z.b.V. 8. He held this position until the end of the war.
