His first duty as such was to announce the succession to various royal houses. He did so on July 2, 1902, in Kiel before Kaiser Wilhelm II, who immediately appointed him a la suite of the I. Seebataillon of the Marine Infantry. In 1904, Friedrich August ascended the throne and was, until his abdication in 1918, the last King of Saxony.

Imperial German Navy heavy naval officer's saber in deluxe presentation grade from the personal possession of King Friedrich August III of Saxony as Generalfeldmarschall and à la suite of the I. Seebataillon

Luxury manufacture circa 1902. 2.5 cm wide and 81.2 cm long, slightly curved false-edged blade with fuller of genuine Damascus steel, the lower end of the blade etched and gilt on both sides, on the obverse side the royal monogram “AR”, on the reverse side the Saxon state coat of arms with the motto “Providentiae memor”, encircling quality mark “Eisenhauer Damaststahl”, on the spine the supplier “Mohr & Speyer, Kgl. Hoflieferanten Berlin”, the blade only slightly spotted, the gilding predominantly preserved. Extra-large, finely chased gilt hilt with the exceptional and very finely crafted "panther head" with one green and one red eye, below the head as decoration a "sea serpent" with trident, as a further special feature on the obverse side of the hilt the fouled anchor under the Imperial crown in silver, the hilt hinged on the reverse side, the grip of genuine ivory (a current CITES certificate included) with complete silver wire wrapping. Attached officer's sword knot. Black leather scabbard with equally finely chased and gilt mounts, the throat with the crowned fouled anchor, the scabbard with two crease marks in the lower section. Condition 2.

This saber is a special commission for Friedrich August III, who became Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saxony in 1902 upon his father's accession to the throne. To announce the succession, he met Kaiser Wilhelm II in Kiel on July 2, 1902. The Kaiser immediately appointed him à la suite of the I. Seebataillon, as which he is also listed in the “Honorary Roll of the Imperial German Navy”.

Even though this piece is a unique item for Friedrich III, the two similar sabers of Kaiser Wilhelm II in his capacity as Chief of the Navy and his brother Prince Heinrich von Preußen as Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy can be attributed to this category in their extraordinary manufacture.

An object of historical and museum significance!
