Waffen-SS Panzer Wrapper for an SS-Scharführer of the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte "Adolf Hitler"

This is a classic private purchase piece in the typical cut for the Waffen-SS, circa 1942. Made of black wool cloth. The collar tabs in RZM metal thread hand-embroidered execution with pink piping, machine-sewn. The button-on shoulder straps with NCO braid around the perimeter, the applied ciphers “LAH” in metal execution, though differing. On the right side the early Cupally execution silver-plated, on the left in aluminum execution. The wearer likely lost the cipher on the left and then replaced it with an aluminum cipher. Both the rank side of the collar tabs and the shoulder straps were both “promoted” from SS-Unterscharführer to SS-Scharführer, the corresponding rank braid and NCO braid applied subsequently during the war. The sleeve eagle in RZM machine-embroidered execution, machine-sewn. The cuff title “Adolf Hitler” in RZM machine-embroidered execution, hand-sewn. Ribbon for the Iron Cross 2nd Class originally sewn into the buttonhole, pinned to the chest the Tank Battle Badge in Silver and the Wound Badge 1939 in Black. Beneath the two badges there are also holes from another pin-back badge. The wearer probably repositioned the Tank Battle Badge after receiving the Wound Badge. Interior with black lining, the white depot stamps still clearly recognizable. Heavily worn, all insignia are originally sewn, many of the buttons were repositioned or resewn by the soldier during the war.

The panzer wrapper was worn daily by the soldier over many years of war, with corresponding pronounced signs of wear, age and use, partly also with minor damages, since May 1945 unchanged in untouched original condition.

Very rare, one of the very few originals with a great presence.
