Prussian Pickelhaube for an Officer in the Grenadier-Regiment Kronprinz (1. Ostpreußisches) Nr. 1

Circa 1880. Stationed in Königsberg in Prussia. Leather helmet, complete with all fittings. Front features the shield eagle with medallion “FWR” and bandeau, pattern from 1860 onwards, with the honor scroll “1619” applied separately at crown height. Flat scale chin chains on rosettes, Prussian state cockade on right side. Square front visor. Cross-shaped base with large stars, detachable spike. Interior with brown leather sweatband and honey-colored silk lining. Size approximately 55. Condition 2.
The honor scroll “1619” was awarded to the regiment as early as 1819. With the introduction of the Pickelhaube in 1842, this was initially worn above the front visor seam. From 1860 onwards, the bandeau was then worn above the eagle. In 1888, the year on the bandeau was changed to “1655”.

A beautiful and rare helmet.
