Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross 1937-1939 Breast Star

circa 1938. Manufactured by Godet & Co. Berlin. The star body in silver, the applied cross is fitted into the star with separately applied eagle. Reverse with 2 hollow rivets, on convex pin, without maker's marking. The white enamel on the left arm of the cross minimally damaged. In large red presentation case with blue silk lining and velvet insert. The small ribbon bar with miniature attachment is unfortunately missing. The breast star lightly worn, in good condition, the presentation case in good condition, inside the blue lining somewhat faded. Very rare.

The Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross was instituted in 1922. Modified in 1934 by the President of the DRK, Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and provided with new statutes. After the seizure of power by the National Socialists, the statutes were again modified on April 6, 1937 with the approval of the Führer and Reich Chancellor, Adolf Hitler. The design was changed for all classes such that the applied eagle now holds a golden wreath with black swastika in its talons. The awarding of the 3rd form of the Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross ended after the institution of the Badge of Honor for German National Welfare on July 1, 1939. Due to the very short period of award, these badges are rare.

Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross 1934-1937 Breast Star

This piece represents the classic manufacture of the firm Godet & Co. Berlin. The star body made of silver-plated base metal, the applied cross with separately applied eagle finely enameled. On the reverse, the eagle is double-riveted, attached to a convex pin with maker’s mark “Gebr. Godet & Co. Berlin”. Lightly worn, in good condition.

One of the rarest decorations of the Third Reich. In over 25 years, this is only the third piece we have been able to offer.
The Badge of Honor of the German Red Cross, awarded since 1924, was replaced by this form in 1934. It was instituted on January 30, 1934, by Duke Carl Eduard von Sachsen Coburg und Gotha, who, with the approval of Reich President von Hindenburg, as President of the DRK, amended the statutes and expanded the classes. The classes were: 1st Class on sash, Star of the Badge of Honor, Cross 1st Class on neck ribbon, Merit Cross as breast badge, Badge of Honor on ribbon (2nd Class).
